Attempt To Usurp
Eastham repeated his position that the school board will be setting a precedent “if we step into this trap" and apply for a use permit. He reported that he'd had lunch recently with Konick and Planning Commission member Werner Krebser. Both acknowledged that they saw his point. Eastham said. “But they let the cat out of the bag...This is an admitted attempt to usurp and override the school laws ot Virginia!”
Controlling himself slightly. Eastham read aloud his earlier letter to Mrs. Massie. pausing at points to add comments not included in the original communication.
At the start, he said, he had not doubted Konick's motives in serving notice on the board that the ordinance required a special use permit before the combination building could be constructed. But after the lunch discussion with Konick and Krebser. “I know there are some people in the county who want to use the zoning laws to control the school board!" he insisted.
As to the necessity of acting so as to meet the deadline for the Board of Zoning Appeals' October meeting, “the panic idea of timing is Mr. Konick’s idea." he said.
