Benjamin h. Weddle
was named Extension
district agent for the northern district with headquarters in Luray. Weddle was to assume administrative leadership for the Extension’s program for Rappahannock and seven neighboring counties.
The Churchwomen of Bromfield Parish were making plans for the House Tour and Dried Flower sale. Three homes were featured: those of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Parrish and Judge and Mrs. Thomas M. Johnston at Viewtown and of Mr. and Mrs. James P. Jamieson at Sperryville.
Maurice L. Butler, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Butler of Boston, received the Kiwanis International Distinguished Service Award for “Unusual courage and rescue coordination in life saving.” Butler was a member of the D.C. Fire Department and won the award for rescuing a mother and her three-year-old daughter trapped in the upper floor of a burning building. In a popular column Si Sez.that used to run weekly in the Rappahannock News, “Si” related an incident of a man going into a herb shop and realizing that it was just an ordinary store. He remarked that it was not an herb shop and the storekeeper replied. "Yes. it is. I’m Herb." At the Hillsdale Drive-In The Beatles were appearing in Hard Day's Night and Yellow Submarine. In Front Royal was appearing Conquest of the Planet of the Apes and One Million Years B.C. with Raquel Welch.
