The judicial selection committee, made up of seven Loudoun County Bar Association members, is chaired by Richard Saunders, also a Leesburg attorney.
Saunders stressed last week that the committee had attempted to choose the best qualified candidates, but that all those who had applied for consideration were qualified. He would not say who, or how many people had applied.
The recommendations of the judicial selection committee are not binding, as more nominations may be made from the floor when the Loudoun County Bar Association meets again Sept. 11 in meeting called especially to make its recommendation to the General Assembly in Richmond.
In fact, not even that recommendation will be binding, since more nominations may be made to the Courts of Justice committees in the Virginia Senate and Virginia House of Delegates by the Rappahannock and Fauquier bar associations, or by delegates or senators on the floor.
Rappahannock and Fauquier bar association members contacted Tuesday said that their organizations had not yet recommended attorneys to replace Judge Penn.
In fact, Fauquier is putting together a judicial recommendation process modeled on that of Loudoun,
