for nurseries
Virginia nursery operators can help their businesses by attending a series of educational programs being offered by the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service during the next seven months.
Programs on the following topics, their dates and locations are: agriculture opportunities in horticulture and turf, Tuesday and Wednesday, October 21-22, Virginia Tech’s Donaldson Brown Center for Continuing Education; beginning in the nursery business, Tuesday through Thursday, October 28-30, Prince William County Extension office at 8805 Sudley Road, Manassas; weed control in the nursery, Tuesday and Wednesday, November 4-5, at Tech’s Donaldson Brown Center.
Also, production of native plants, Monday through Wednesday, November 17-19, Tech’s Donaldson Brown Center; plant propagation and tissue culture, Tuesday through Thursday, February 17-19, Tech’s Donaldson Brown Center; containergrowth plant production and nutrition, Tuesday and Wednesday, February 24-25, the Hampton Roads Agricultural Experiment Station at Virginia Beach, and nursery and greenhouse insects, Tuesday and Wednesday, March 24-25, Tech’s Donaldson Brown Center.
All of the programs will begin at 8 a.m. on the first day with the exception of the weed control seminar which will start at 12:30 p.m. Registration is limited to 20 in each program with the exception of the plant propagation seminar which has a limit of 15.
The registration fee ranges be.tween $65 and $110, depending on r the nature of the program. The variance in fees is due the variety of educational materials, supplies and travel expenses of the speakers.
