The Rappahannock office of the USD A Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service is accepting applications for assistance from farmers and livestock producers who have suffered losses due to this year’s drought.
Livestock producers are eligible for two forms of assistance. One is in the form of an allowance to purchase CCC com at the price of $1.56 per bushel, provided they have suffered at least a 50 percent loss of feed and own foundation livestock.
The second assistance program allows producers who have suffered substantial losses in feed normally produced to purchase any type of feed for eligible livestock at approximately 50 percent of cost.
Producers must apply for assistance at the ASCS office on Gay Street in Washington. Please bring information on livestock count and ages, crops and acreages normally produced and production this year. Applications to the Emergency Feed Program must be filed by December 31, 1986.
Payments under the Emergency Feed Program will be made with generic commodity certificates. Farmers must submit bills for purchased feed. The bills must contain the date of purchase, amount of purchase, kind and type of feed purchased, price paid and date of delivery. The receipt must also be signed by the seller.
Farmers who have fields on which the permanent ground cover has failed due to drought should contact the ASCS office by September 12 to see if they qualify for assistance in reestablishing a permanent ground cover.
