Harvest Moon:
Full moon occurs on September 18th at 12:34 a.m. and is called the Harvest Moon since it is the first full moon nearest the Autumnal Equinox when moon rise is close on the heels of sunset for several successive days.
According to tradition and folk customs, the extra light provided by the moon at this time gave the farmers additional hours in which to finish up the chores in the fields and bring in the harvest.
