Wharton family reunion The annual family reunion of the late Henry T. Wharton and Lillie M. Cloude Wharton, will be held September 6 at the Rappahannock Park. Relatives and friends are invited. “Please come, join in, bring a picnic basket and enjoy,” said a family spokesperson. Auction items needed The Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department will hold their auction Friday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m. at the Chester Gap fire hall. They are still in need of auction items, anyone wishing to donate items please call 635-4673 or 636-2627.
Historical Society picnic scheduled The annual picnic of the Rappahannock Historical Society will be held Friday, September 5th, at 6 p.m. at “Caledonia,” the home of Phil Irwin. Members and their guests are urged to attend and a cordial invitation is extended to anyone who is interested in becoming a member.
Humane Society Auction An auction to benefit the Rappahannock Humane Society will be held at Points of View Farm in Flint Hill on Saturday, October 18 at 2 p.m., rain or shine. Donations of items to auction will be gratefully accepted. For donations or information call Ann Sakalaucks at 987-8140.
Mark Twain at Gay Street On Saturday. September 6 at 8 p.m., RAAC and the Wayside Theatre will present Mark Twain Himself, starring Ed Steele and produced by the Wayside Theatre on Tour. This program is a one-man dramatization of Mark Twain’s writings and philosophies. There will be no movie shown the weekend of September 6 and 7.
Coppage family reunion The annual family reunion of the late George and Florence Leake Coppage will be held on Sunday, September 14 at the Rappahannock Park on Route 211 near Washington. Relatives and friends are invited. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. “Plan to come, join us and spend the day,” said a family spokesperson.
“Fiber Arts Plus Two” to open at Middle Street A new show, “Fiber Arts Plus Two,” will open at Middle Street Gallery on September 6 from 1 to 5 p.m. The show which is sponsored by the Artists Cooperative will run through September 21. The artists represented in the front room will be Cathy Kiley, Jeanne Drevas, Janet Kerig, Joel Hoyer, Pam Woods, Nina Moore and Dianne Waldron. Artists represented in the back room consist of Steven O. Griffinacrylics and Sam Cliffton- aerial sculpture and fabric paintings.
