/showroom/residence was built in several stages. The south end of the house (opposite the Post Office) was built first, sometime in the 1740s, with an addition on the back built shortly after, “if the legend about George Washington dancing in the ballroom is true,” according to Mr. Eldred.

The two-story shop and its long, open storage room behind were built in the 1860s, and the middle portion of the house, between the original free-standing structures, was added late in the last century.
