Fran, Eldred added, “Anyone who has'ever had any doubts about the efficiency of the local fire companies - I would just like them to come and take a look at what the volunteers did... And the Sheriffs Department: they were here in no time, stopping traffic to allow the fire trucks to get in.” «
The fire caused extensive damage to the workshop and the stooge room behind it, as well as to the roof and rafters above the shop and the 1 north end of the house. Several rooms of the house were heavily damaged by water and by the necessity of the firefighters removing sec- , tions of wall and ceiling to make sure that the fire had not spread inside the walls.
Mr^ Eldred said that there has been "no estimate, made of the amount of damage to the structure and its contents.
“There’s no way that I can even begin to thank all the people who have offered help,” Mrs. Eldred said. “A world war may draw a nation together - this drew a community together. People who ydu would never expect to be able to get along are out there working side by side.”
“Everybody you could imagine,” Mr. Eldred continued, “and some you couldn’t. I’m almost afraid to name names - I don’t want to leave anyone out.”
One person Mrs. Eldred insisted on mentioning was Roger Roach.
