The obvious choice
H. G. (Butch) Zindel is the obvious choice to fill the vacancy on the Board of Supervisors.
He has demonstrated strong support in Jackson District, losing to three-term incumbent J. R. Latham by just five votes in the last election in 1983. No one else can claim that level of backing by the district’s voters.
A resident of the county for eight years, Mr. Zindel knows the issues facing Rappahannock. He is as committed to preserving and protecting the county’s agricultural industry and fragile natural resources as he is to meeting mandates for education, roads, social services and solid waste disposal. i
He’s a family man in a county where “we believe very strongly in the family unit,” recently put it.

Common sense tells us that Butch Zindel should be named Jackson District supervisor.
Precedent says the same thing.
When Chairman Newbill Miller unexpectedly resigned from the board in 1974, Clarence Baldwin, his opponent in the previous election, was appointed to the board in his stead. Mr. Baldwin had run the same dose race as did Mr. Zindel, losing by just one vote, according to the recount.
Back in 1974, Mr. Baldwin had support from 231 voters. In 1983, Mr. Zindel tallied 221 votes.
We ask that the Board of Supervisors recognise that precedent and appoint Butch Zindel as representative from Jackson District.
