He said that the delegations from surrounding counties have also expressed opposition to the plan. He expressed a preference for the bypass, if it is built, to follow the eastern route, roughly paralleling the existing Rt. 301 corridor. “It would shorten the distance for trucks headed for the northeast. It is ridiculous to make them come all the way out here.”

Mr. Guest urged his constituents to let their representative on the Transportation Board, Connie Kinchloe of Culpeper District, know about their opposition. “Contact (her) and express your hope that Virginia will not come up the western corridor and end at the Potomac River, that you favor using the 301 route for the bypass.

“They need letters,” he continued. “They have the ability to say, ‘We’re not interested.’ ” He added that letters should also be sent to the Governor’s office expressing the same feeling.

Del. Guest also expressed his concern that salaries for Virginia State Police troopers be raised. “The salaries are not competitive with a number of the forces around the state - and Virginia ranks 46th or 48th in the country in pay for ifs state police.
