Teen night at the movies
Teenagers from 12 to 17 are invited to meet their friends at the Gay St. Theater on Friday, July 22 at 7:80 for a showing of Tex especially for them. The ticket price of $2 includes admission and a free hot dog. Joining the Rappahannock kids will be a busload of teenagers from Fauquier imported by the Fauquier Parks and Recreation Department. Tex rated PG, stars Matt Dillon and Meg Tillv. There will be another showing Saturday night, at regular prices.
Basket workshop at Middle St.
A basketweaving workshop will be held at Middle Street Gallery in August. The 3-session class will be devoted to completing an Appalachian melon basket with a wild grapevine handle and dyed reed, splits. The fee is $45 and includes all materials. The class will run Tuesday evenings 7 to 9:30 p.m., August 2, 9 and 16. Pre registration is required. To register call Janet Kerig at 987-8670 or the Middle Street Gallery at 675-3440.
Vacation Bible school
Vacation Bible School featuring Gospel Bill will be held at Family Worship Center August 1-5 from 9:30 to 12:30. “Come and join us for fun. If you need a ride call 987-8014," said a church spokesperson. The church is located on Mt. Salem Ave. in Washington, Old School building.
Contemporary jazz concert
Mike Russell and Kathy Kelsh will be in concert at Horseshoe Hills presenting contemporary jazz on Sunday, July 31 from 5-9 p.m. The concert will benefit the Ronnie Pullen memorial stadium. Requested donation is $3. Horseshoe Hills is located on Rt. 211, one mile west of Sperryville.
ARB meeting postponed
Washington’s Architectural Review Board will not hold its regular scheduled meeting this week. The meeting will be held on Thursday, Aug. 4 at 8 p.m. at the courthouse.
‘Tex’
The movie Tex will be playing at the Gay Street Theater on Friday and Saturday, July 22 and 23 at 7:8o p.m. each evening. Friday night will be teen night (grades 6-12) at the theater. A free hot dog will be given to teens with their admission. This film stars Matt Dillon of The Outsiders and The Flamingo Kid fame and Meg Tilly of Agio s of God fame. Based on the best-selling novel by S. K. Hinton, it is a tale of
a boy whose mother has died, whose father is away, whose brother is trying to raise him with no money and little patience . . . and whose self-esteem is nil. Tex has been praised for its sensitive portrayal of the thoughts and feelings of teenagers. The movie is rated PG. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.
