Lights of Love
to shine Dec. 6
The Lights of Love tree at CMH will be lighted on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m., during a ceremony on the west side of the hospital where the new emergency department is located.
The tree, orginally planted by the Girl Scouts, has become a glowing holiday fixture and can be admired from many angles during December.
Shining with hundreds of red and white lights, the tree has many personal meanings. The red and white lights represent donations of $5 or more in memory or honor of friends or loved ones. Lights in the star of the tree represent gifts of $50 or more.
The community is invited to the outdoor ceremony featuring seasonal music performed by members of local church choirs. Walter Thomas will direct this year’s choir.
Rev. Hugh Wilson of Good Hope Baptist Church will give the invocation and benediction. Eula Henretty, president of the CMH Auxiliary; Richard Wiltshire, chairman of the CMH Board of Trustees; and Bill Gravely, president of CMH will make brief remarks. David Jones, first baby to be bom at CMH,. will light the tree. Refreshments will be served.
In five years, Lights of Love has raised over $43,800 to benefit health care projects chosen by the Auxiliary. This year’s proceeds will go toward the purchase of a structural canopy to protect patients and guests from inclement weather.
This year’s committee members are Eula Henretty, chairman; Estelle Burnette, co-chairman; and Mary Carpenter, program chairman.
