The timetable that ends the truck ban concurrent with the completion of the dual-laning to Marshall was decided “by agreement within the department," Mr. Farley said, adding that the ban cannot be formally lifted without action by the Commonwealth Transportation Board. The district engineer said a resolution calling for an end to the truck ban on Route 17 will be transmitted to the board “sometime in advance of the opening of roadway,” but that the final decision must await the board's vote.
Should the ban be continued until the spur is completed — as proposed by the town of Warrenton — relief will be a long time coming for Rappahannock. According to resident engineer Bob Moore, if work begins tomorrow on the two-mile spur between Route 17 just north of Warrenton and the existing 15 29 east bypass, the project won’t be finished until 1993.
