in the park
C.M. Crockett Park invites area residents to participate in its holiday nature programs. This year’s lineup includes fun and educational programs for all. They include:
• “Winter Woods Hike,” Saturday, Dec. 3, opens the holiday season. Hikers will examine the effect of mother nature on the forest during the winter. The hike will be held from 1-2 p.m.
• The Northern Virginia Astronomy Club, which recently gave a program at the park to over 100 people, will return for ‘The Winter Skies.” This program is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 10, 5:30-7 p.m. Be sure to dress for the weather!
• A “Christmas Bird Count at Crockett Park,” Saturday, Dec. 10, 8-10 a.m. is designed for those bird enthusiasts in the area. The park has a bird checklist that contains all the names of birds in Fauquier County. State ornithology guidelines will be followed.
The Winter Nature programs will conclude with “Feed the Wildlife and Dress Up the Park — and Your Yard — for Christmas,” Saturday, Dec. 17 from 1-2 p.m. This program offers participants a chance to make a variety of decorations from which the wildlife may eat this winter.
