from the Transportation Board, Mr. Farley said. Design plans are now being revised in reaction to opposition from residents of a subdivision adjacent to the spur’s originally proposed path, he reported.

“We're looking at four different alignments” and developing an environmental impact statement which will be presented at public hearings in February or March 1989, he said. The comments from those hearings will be taken into consideration, and addressed, and only then will the Warrenton spur project be forwarded to the Transportation Board for a decision, Mr. Farley added.

No accidents on last two miles of Route 17

It was a series of accidents that persuaded the Transportation Board to grant Fauquier County’s request and close Route 17 to trucks in November 1984. And according to VDOT counts taken soon thereafter, the move diverted a portion of Route 17’s tractor-trailer traffic onto the winding and narrow stretch of Route 522 which connects interstates tk> and 81 near Front Royal with I'.S. Route 211 in Rappahannock County.
