A former employee at the Rappahannock County Jail has been charged in connection with a series of incidents during the past month, including the theft and slaughter of livestock.
Jerry Ashby Compton, 24, of Route 1, Castleton, has been charged with one count of petty larceny of livestock and one felony count of maiming or killing of an animal in connection with the theft of a hog belonging to Dale Welch of Huntly.
According to a complaint filed against Compton, Mr. Welch discovered one of his hogs was missing on Nov. 10. He reported the disappearance to the sheriffs department, and a neighbor found the dead animal covered with leaves along the side of Route 638 on Nov. 15.
The complaint alleges that, after killing the hog, Compton and two juveniles took it to Guard Hill Meats in Middleburg, where the slaughterhouse refused to process the animal. The hog was then dumped along the road in an attempt to dis
