THE PATHWAY TO PROSPERITY TEXT: He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but who so confesseth anil forsaketh them shall have mercy. Proverbs 28:13

We see in II Samual chapter 11 the awful sin of David. In chapter 12, David repents of that sin. That is what every Christian needs to do if they are going to be used of God and prosper.

I. THE COST OF COVERED SIN

A. Sin dirties the soul of men and women. In Psalm 51:1,2, David recognizes his sin problem. He asks God for mercy. Isn’t it wonderful that God’s mercy is still extended to everyone today? In verse 2, he says, "Wash me and cleanse me.” He wanted to be clean for the Lord. Dear Christian friend, if you are ever going to get any thing done for the Lord, you must be cleansed from sin. “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.” (John 15:3) It is God’s Word that cleanses us. You might say that you don’t sin, but the Bible, which is God’s Holy Word says in I John 1:8, "If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.” He is talking to Christians in the epistle of John. 4 B. Sin dominates the mind. It rules the mind. David cries out in Psalm 51:3, “my sin is ever before me.” Dear friend, you cannot run from your sin. It is ever before you. You might leave the state or country and go some place else, but your sin will ever be before you until you confess it and forsake it. Confessing it is not enough, you must forsake it. You can get a prescription from the doctor, but until you have it filled and take the medication, it will not be any good to you.

C. Sin depresses the heart. Psalm 51:8,12 speaks of David losing his joy. Verse 12 says he had lost the joy of his salvation. He didn’t say that he had lost his salvation, but his joy. This is why some people are depressed today. They have sinned and lost their joy. They stop witnessing for the Lord. They just give up because they have lost their joy. Friend, have you lost your joy? Don’t give up. Jesus did not give up on you and I. He went to Calvary and shed his precious blood so you and I could be born into the family of God by repenting of sin and coming to Jesus by faith. (I Peter 1:18,19; Ephesians 2:8,9)

Maybe dear friend you are lost. Confessing your sin would not do you any good. You need to be pardoned of your sin. (Isaiah 55:7) Would you bow your head and repent of sin, Luke 13:3, and ask the Lord Jesus to save your soul? (Romans 10:13) He will save you.
