Roberta Kendrick Massie Spalding, 83, of Flint Hill, died June 28 in Front Royal.
Mrs. Spalding was bom Nov. 22, 1905, in Front Royal, the daughter of the late William Jackson Kendrick and Annie Bush Kendrick. She attended Mary Baldwin College and was graduated from what is now James Madison University. She taught for approximately 12 years in the public school systems of Warren and Rappahannock counties.
In 1951 she was appointed to fill the unexpired term of her late husband as Rappahannock’s Commissioner of the Revenue. She was later elected to the office and served for 20 years. She was active in this group’s state association and was invited to speak at several statewide meetings. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where she was a former member of the choir and was active in the Women of the Church.
Mrs. Spalding was active in numerous civic organizations and was serving as Memorial Chairman of the American Cancer Society.
