As long as there are things wrong in this country, I’ll be cartooning,” promised John Kilhefner, the editorial cartoonist for the Rappahannock News.
He says he’s not out to change the world but rather to encourage change. “One of the greatest benefits of cartooning is you can get your idea across without being nasty. And I have some strong ideas,” he said.
Not just on national issues, either. With his pens, Kilhefner has drawn his position on such locally contentious matters as the county’s proposal to swap the library building for Washington’s town hall, the gypsy moth problem, Jackson District’s outspoken representative on the board of supervisors, family life education, and the proposed addition to the county jail.
“Washington is a great town,” he said, amplifying a little on the latter, “It would be a shame to ruin it by adding an addition to the jail. Millions have been spent on towns like Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Fredericksburg to keep them looking colonial. Washington has a natural old-fashioned touch.
