Norman reunion
The annual Norman reunion will be held at the Rappahannock Park on Rt. 211 Washington, Aug. 26. Rev. Paul Hawkins, pastor of Tidewater Baptist Temple in Chesapeake will be preaching from 11 a.m.-12 noon. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Friends and relatives are invited to attend.
Welfare League to meet
The Rappahannock Animal Welfare League will meet Tuesday, Aug. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Washington fire hall. All members and interested persons are urged to attend.
Jenkins family reunion
The annual reunion for the relatives and friends of the late Luther E. and Ada F. Jenkins will be held Aug. 26 at the picnic area of Graves Mountain Lodge, Syria from 11 a.m. until dark. Those attending are asked to bring a picnic lunch which will be served at 1 p.m.
Citizens League to meet
The Rappahannock County Citizens League will be holding their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Washington. Anyone interested in the Rappahannock Community Center is asked to attend.
Beahm-Bolen reunion planned
Descendants, friends and relatives are invited to the seventh annual George Washington and Nancy Bolen Beahm family reunion Sunday, Sept. 2, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Rappahannock Park on Route 211 near Washington. RCES cookbooks
The parents of this year’s seventh grade class have compiled a cookbook featuring recipes submitted by fellow parents of Rappahannock County Elementary School students. The books will go on sale at Fee Day, Aug. 30. The cost is $7. Those who placed advance orders for the cookbooks may contact Arthur Neufeld at RCES (987-8259) before or after school to arrange to pick them up. All profits from sales of the cookbooks will help fund the seventh grade trip to Williamsburg.
'Music Box'
The movie Music Box will be playing at the Gay Street Theater on Friday and Sunday, Aug. 17 and 19 at 7:30 p.m. Directed by CostaGravis, starring Jessica Lange. A courtroom drama in which Lange defends her Hungarian father against charges that as a member of the dreaded Special Section during World War II, he executed women and children on the banks of the Danube. The movie is rated PG13.
Benefit yard sale
The Castleton Community Volunteer Fire Company (CCVFD) will be having a yard sale on Aug. 25 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Castleton Fire Department. Anyone wishing to donate items for the sale can call 937-5614 or 937-6051. All donated items will be appreciated and the proceeds from the sale will go towards operating expenses of CCVFD.

Learn how you can free the writer within in a workshop led by Nol Putnam, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 19 in the town hall. Using simple techinques, participants will write briefly on a variety of topics and may opt to share their work in a safe, receptive environment. No critique will be given. The fee is $25 per person. Dance to benefit WVFD
The Washington Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a dance on Saturday, Aug. 18 on Gay Street at the courthouse. At 6 p.m. there will be gospel singing and from 8 p.m. to midnight the New Riders Band will perform. There will also be volleyball and kickball, beer, wine, pizza, hot dogs and more. Cost is $2 per person to benefit WVFD.
