Though the park holds its open house only once a year, on the weekend closest to Mr. Hoover’s Aug. 10 birthdate, the camp is open yearround. Visitors are free to walk the grounds, but are asked to stay away from the cabins and respect the privacy of anyone staying there.

Camp Hoover is accessible from Big Meadow (Skyline Drive milepost 51.3) via the Rapidan Fire Road (no vehicles permitted). From Big Meadow, the hike is about 2 1/2 miles each way by fire road and horse trail, downhill on the way to the camp, and uphill on the return trip. Sturdy shoes or hiking boots are recommended, since the trail is rocky.
