Flint Hill Carnival begins

The Flint Hill Fireman's Carnival will be held at the carnival grounds next to the Fire Hall this week. It started on Wednesday, July 31 and runs through Aug. 3.

• On Wednesday, July 31 rides will be held between 6:30 p.m. and 10 p.m., $4 for kids of all ages to ride all night.

• On Thursday, Aug 1 the parade will begin at 6:30 p.m., featuring the current Miss Virginia, Sheri Huffman.

Also featured in the parade will be firefighting and rescue squads from the Northern Virginia area as well as Maryland.

Bands, Shrine units, floats, Scouts, antique cars and a host of others will participate.

• On Friday, Aug. 2 music will be featured at two shows, one at 7:45 p.m. and the second at 10 p.m. The featured band will be Shenandoah.

• On Saturday, Aug. 3 the prizes to be awarded include a 1991 Ford Festiva, a registerd black angus and two sets of Redskins seaspn tickets.

Primary election information

Political parties may choose to nominatethecandidates who will- - represent their party on the ballot at the Nov. 5, general and special elections by any method permitted by their party plan.

The primary elections chosen for one or both political parties will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 11. To be qualified to vote in the primary of the party of your choice, you must be registered to vote in the precinct where you live. The final day of registration will be Monday, Aug. 12.

No primary is being held in Rappahannock County. However, any eligible person who lives in Virginia may apply to be registered in the county or city in which he lives at any voter registration location in Virginia — including Rappahannock.

Voter registration will be available at the Registrar's Office, located in the Rappahannock Courthouse in Washington from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 10.
