The annual meeting of the Rappahannock Historical Society will be held at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 2, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ulrich Maeyer in Sperryville.

The annual meeting1 is always a covered dish picnic at one of the county’s historic homes.

The Maeyers live at Quaintance Farm, historically called “San Jacinto.”

Legend says the house was named for the Battle of San Jacinto, fought on April 21, 1836. The house is 155 years old and has a very interesting history.
