Col. Knuepfer
To the Editor:
On July 18 a truck from Whitehurst Paving jackknifed on Route 640 and spilled approximately 800 gallons of water-based liquid asphalt by a small stream.
The situation could have been catastrophic to Dr. Thomas Liverman’s lake had it not been for the rapid reaction of the Sheriffs Office in notifying Col. Dieter Knuepfer, our local emergency coordinator.
Col. Knuepfer is a volunteer, like many in Rappahannock County, with the knowledge and professionalism to ensure that the clean-up operation was done properly.
The clean-up operation was conducted by the OHM Corp. under the direction of Bill Crumpler, environmental safety officer for Whitehurst Paving.
However, the continuous presence of Col. Knuepfer added the necessary emphasis to make sure that the job was completed properly and to the county’s satisfaction.
I would like to thank Col. Knuepfer, on behalf of all Jackson District residents, for his professionalism and for a job well done.
