Scores top average

The state released results of standardized testing and of the sixth-grade literacy passport tests for public school students last week, and Rappahannock’s students did fairly well.
In the standardized testing, Rappahannock’s students were at or above state averages for all but the three sets of results reported for first graders and llth-grade science.
The state’s results are consistently above the national average, which should be 50 percent, but which is probably 51 percent, because these tests have not been re-normed since 1986.
Compared to surrounding counties, Rappahannock students also did well on the tests, scoring higher with a few exceptions.
Fauquier students scored higher in first and 11th grade and in fourth-grade science. Madison students had a higher verbal score for first grade, and Warren students had higher scores in first-grade quantitative and fourth-grade science.
The scores of Rappahannock students were at or above those from Culpeper and Page counties in all measures reported.
