Hurricane exercise slated Rappahannock will take part in “Zelda,” a hurricane emergency exercise sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency during the period March 2-April 24, according to Col. D.C. Knuepfer, county Emergency Services coordinator. Other jurisdictions in Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, Maryland and D.C. will also take part in the exercise. A briefing by Col. Knuepfer will take place at 10 a.m. Jan. 22 in the Rappahannock Courthouse. For more information call 675-3483.
Senator speaks at college Former presidential nominee and distinguished author, Sen. Eugene McCarthy, will deliver the inaugural keynote lecture for the new honors seminar at Lord Fairfax Community College. Sen. McCarthy is a resident of Woodville. Open to the public, Sen. McCarthy’s lecture will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, in Room 40 of the college in Middletown. His topic will be “The Paradox of Freedom,” this year’s Phi Theta Keppa Honors topic.
