Haywood Griffith
Haywood Silas Griffith, 78, of Front Royal, died Sunday, Jan. 19 at the Warren Memorial Hospital in Front Royal.
The funeral was conducted Wednesday, Jan. 22 at the Front Royal United Methodist Church by the Rev. Larry Thompson. Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Griffith was bom Aug. 12, 1913, in Rappahannock County, the son of the late James William and Ruth Mae Bruce Griffith. He was retired after 41 years as a mechanic for Avtex Fibers in Front Royal. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served with the Airborne Engineers and Air Service Command. He retired from the Air Force Reserve. He was a member of the Front Royal United Methodist Church and was past president of the Men’s Bible Class. He was a member of Warren County Chapter of TWLA, the American Red Cross, life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Air Force Sergeants Association and was active in the Boy Scouts.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred V. Griffith; two daughters, Linda Griffith Ruhling of Roanoke and Peggy Griffith Manual of Front Royal; two brothers, William S. Griffith of Leesburg, Fla. and Richard Griffith of Fredericksburg; five sisters, Annie Moore of Flint Hill, Virginia Strauch of Burlington, N.C., Colleen Williams of Front Royal, Ruth Jones of Winchester and Barbara Reid of Rock Mills and six grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, James Robert Griffith.
Members of the Unity Lodge served as pallbearers.
A Masonic memorial service was conducted Tuesday, Jan. 21 by the Unity Lodge 146 AF&AM of Front Royal at the Tumer-Robertshaw Funeral Home.
