Lions plan Bland contest

Wanted: The best young musicians in Rappahannock County.
It’s time to prepare for the Bland Music Competition sponsored every year by the Lions Clubs of Virginia.
If you can sing, strum a guitar, beat a drum, play a piano or any other musical instrument, and if you’re a resident of Virginia attending elementary, junior or senior high school, you’re eligible to register for the Lions’Music Contest.
We might even consider letting you play the musical saw, whistle a fancy tune or hum along while you beat it out with spoons, but the sounds you produce must be good enough to qualify as “music. ”
Don’t you want to show Mom and Dad that the money they've spent on music lessons was a good investment? So practice up, rehearse your act and share your talent with the world. You may be even better than you think you are. You’ll never know unless you try.
Last year, the Rappahannock Lions gave Savings Bonds to the winners of both music categories, vocal and instrumental. Those awards were presented at a Q regular Lions Club dinner meeting. The winning performers were guests of the club and the Rappahannock ' News reported the event and printed a group photograph. The same public recognition is planned for this year.
