Knave been a resident of the Chester Gap community in Rappahannock County just a few miles over the Warren County line for the past year, and it has come to my attention that people have been dumping both bulk and regular garbage up on Route 670 near the entrance to the Shenandoah Park. It is not only illegal to dump, but it is just plain stupid!
Our environment is a precious and necessary commodity for our health and the health of our children. We are all on well water, and it would be sad if irresponsible, ignorant people contaminate that water. Some of the trash has been traced back to residents from Warren County, and they have been contacted about it. However, if they wish to pollute the earth, then they should dump in their own back yards and stop polluting others. It is sad that they do not care enough about the environment to dump their trash in the designated areas.
It is the responsibility of all adults to set good examples for our children and teach them just how important the environment is to life in general. I would like this letter to serve as notice to all ignorant polluters who participate in such disgusting behavior that if you are caught there will be a high price to pay, and if you are not caught, there will be an even higher price to pay.

The American Indian Relief Council and the staff of the Trading Post would like to take this opportunity to thank the Rappahannock Newt readers who responded vigorously to Jerry and Cheryl Shenandoah’s letter regarding the expected closing of our store. As a result of the supportive reaction we received the Trading Post will continue to operate on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
We will also continue to announce visiting artists and craftspeople in the paper’s Upcoming Events column as we look forward to a year filled with friends new and
