To the Editor:
Congratulations to Dr. Gangel and the School Board’s expansion committee for exhibiting that rarest of civic virtues, responsiveness to the citizens they serve. I refer to the article in last week’s paper about Dr. Gangel’s recommendation to the School Board that they take steps to address the concerns expressed at the public meeting about the proposed middle school construction.
While I was confident that the expansion committee would give serious consideration to the opinions voiced at the public hearing, it was nonetheless veiy gratifying to see them react so quickly and it certainly reaffirms my faith in the workings of our local governmental system.
And while I’m on the subject of congratulations, I would like to extend them to the staff and editor of the Rappahannock News for their continued outstanding coverage of events both in the county and out that are relevant to their readers. We all know that Lou Hatter left a very large pair of shoes to fill but in my opinion (and in the opinions of many others I have spoken with) new editor Mark Scolforo has filled them adeptly as he has become a welcome member of the local community.
