When the school system advertised for bids for gasoline and diesel fuel for the buses a second time, Quarles Pertroleum submitted a bid that included servicing the tanks. Quarles owns the tanks at the school bus shop.
The board accepted the bid from Quarles ofi 65 cents per gallon for diesel fuel and 72 cents per gallon for gasoline. This is about 10 cents more than the lowest bids submitted by . companies in the eiarlier bidding, but none of the firms that bid in the first bid process were willing to supply tanks. . Assistant Superintendent Robert Chappell estimates that the school system will use about 15,000 gallons of diesel fuel this year at a cost of $9,750, and about 25,000 gallons of gasoline at a cost of $18,000.' * The gasoline goes into two underground tanks holding 3,000 gallons and 4,000 gallons. The diesel fuel goes into a 500-gallon tank on skids.
