Wakefield Country Day School, Inc. at Huntly (WCDS) will open its Fall semester Wednesday, Sept. 8 with seven new teachers on its faculty.

Thorunn Anne Ruga will teach 10th grade American literature and composition, and junior and senior British literature and composition.

She comes to WCDS from the University of Illinois at Carbondale where she taught English composition. She is a graduate of George Mason University, with a master of arts degree in Medieval English literature and a bachelor of arts degree in English and writing. She is currently completing work on her Ph.D. in Early American literature at the University of Illinois.

Teaching senior composition and vocabulary, publications class and religion in grades seven through 12 will be Sharon K. Higby. Ms. Higby holds the M.A.' degree in English from Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, University of London, England and received her undergraduate degree in English from Christendom College in Front Royal.

Recently she taught at Holy An: gles Academy, Buffalo, New York.

Front Royal resident Anne Underwood will teach art in the first seven grades, and studio and advanced placement art in the senior high school at WCDS.

She taught and served as an art consultant in Georgia schools and taught clay sculpture at the Strasburg Museum. She is owner of Underwood Originals.

Mrs. Underwood received a B.A. in fine arts from Birmingham-Southern College in Alabama aty^jcopa^ pleted the academic part of her teaching certificate at Georgia State University.

Malcolm Schantz Served 26 years as an officer in the U.S. Navy, commanding twro antisubmarine ships.

After his retirement he wras director of research and strategic planning for the EDO Corp. in Washington, D.C. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, he has a mas- , ter of education degree from Boston University.

Mr. Schantz will teach computer science, physics and pre-algebra.
