Tennis is alive and well In Rappahannock County with a new breed of players arriving on the scene--the juniors. This was evident last weekend at the Rappahannock County Park with the first Round Robin Tournament drawing 17 enthusiastice players and a great group of spectators.
The excitement and determination of the players was not spoiled by the heat and humidity. They were diving to make uhbelieveable shots, scrambling to cover over. heads, hitting winners off twohanded back hands, and the seasoned players encouraged their part• hers with high fives! All to the delight of the parents, grandparents and friends watching. - The 12 and Under category drew eight players--Alex and Johnny Baumgardner, Lain Carney, Biran and Harris Evans, newcomer to Rappahannock County Megan and Michael Fairbrother, and Med Parrish. The 16 and Unders had Adam . Bouffard, Rob and Van DeBergh, Shannon and Willie Eastham, Jonathan Maeyer, Jonathan Moore, Rob Reeve and Riara Wilson.
Friday’s play was devoted to singles with Jonathan Maeyer captur. ing the 16 and Under title from Willie Eastham after an exciting playoff match ending in a tiebreaker (from Willie Eastham). Brian Evans . survived tough competition to take home the 12 and Under singles title with Michael Fairbrother a close second. «
