At last week’s Library Board meeting the board voted to invest funds in a variety of stocks. The funds are for an endowment fund to provide for future expansion of the building and support for the library.
The board voted to invest about $35,000 , now and expects approximately $25,000 more from the estate of Ann Phelps Lane later.
The board accepted the recommendation of the finance committee to purchase stocks in amounts of 100 shares of First Colony Insurance, Exxon, ALCAN, AT&T, Phillips Oil and International Paper. The board also voted to invest $10,000 in a mutual fund.
The summer reading program grew this year. Ninty-one children participated, an increase of 18 percent, and read 3,712 books, an increase of 31 percent.
Diana Bird reported on the plans for the Friday at the Library programs. The board thanked her for her work on the program committee and also thanked last year’s program chairman Sam McDermott and Mitzi Young, who started the adult programs in the 1991-92 season.
