Can you imagaine a world without music? Maybe, but we wouldn’t want to live in it.

If you’re a young musician hoping for an audience, we would like to provide the opportunity for you to be seen and heard and to have your talent recognized.

The Rappahannock Lions Club has been sponsoring annual music contests for many years. Virginia Lions Music competitions are being perpetuated as a living memorial to Jaihes A. Bland, the distinguished black composer who wrote the familiar song “Carry Me Back To Old Virginia,” which was adopted in 1940 by the General Assemby of Virginia as the official state anthem.

Student vocalists or instrumentalists are eligible to participate when sponsored by a Virginia Lions Club if they are resident of the state and attending elementary, junior or senior high school. Rappahannock students who win at the local level could advance to compete with hun
