This could have been a very positive article pointing to the excellence of servics available in this small county and about how successful the program has been.
For instance, last year there were three students exiting the pre-school special ed program. One entered a “regular” kindergarten class. The second was borderline and went on to the K-2 special ed class with hopes that artwther year might see him leaving special ed. Initially there was no program in Rappahannock for the third child, and he tried a neighboring county. More recently, a program has been developed here.
Every child that learns to surmount their difficulties and go on to become' a contributing member of society not only actually lessens the financial burden on all of us, but should also be a source of pride.
We should also be extremely proud of the excellent, knowledable, caring staff we have in this county. Anyone who has doubts as to the need of these programs or as to their excellence, is more than welcome to observe, or better still, to volunteer. Contact me (6753848), the Elementary or High school offices or the individual special ed teachers.
Anyone who is vehemently op-» posed to the program is advised to contact their elected officials.
