To the Editor:
For many years the Amissville Churches and the Rurtian Club have joined forces to make Christmas a little better for those in need, shutins, and those who are alone over the holidays.
This year we reached 82 homes in the Amissville community.
The Churches and the Ruritan Club would like to thank all the people who helped to make this one of the best efforts ever. It was truly an expression of the Christmas spirit.

Budget Cuts
To the Editor:
There must be a message strong enough to persuade readers to stand firm against the witless budget cuts being sought by Governor Allen, whose concern for plenty, punishment, and pride far exceeds that for mercy, morality, and meaning.
Education, on every level is a function of government—the basics and beyond should be our goal, whether through Extension programs, corrective programs, cultural curricula, or guidance.
Welfare is a basic; illiteracy, like illegitimacy, is a product of the failure of funding the family at the foundation.
I urge you, to contact immediately, by mail, telephone, fax or computer, your delegate, senator, key members of committees, and the governor himself, and state your protest.
