Ms. Marshall said her son was identified as learning disabled in the public school. At Spring Mountain he is able to function like the other children. She said Spring Mountain School could serve other children who have problems learning in regular public schools or are considered disruptive.

Charter schools will take resources from regular public schools, and to overcome resistance to that, charter schools need to find ways to help the public schools, ehe said.

“What the public schools are trying to do is tough,” Ms. Marshall said. “No private school tries to do what the public schools do with abused kids and handicapped kids.”

Del. Katzen suggested the parents come to the General Assembly to testify when the education committees hold public hearings oncharter school legislation.
