In the interest of full disclosure, for twelve years I have contracted with the Rappahannock County Schools to provide Physical Therapy for students who qualify for these services. As a contractor, I am the receipient of a minuscule part of that special ed budget.

I’m writing in response to the*1 recent barrage of letters about the picture of the dancing bear.
I see no conflict between the picture and having information about the S.P.C.A. These people need to get a grip. Hunting is a necessary and for many people an enjoyable part of life, and it’s the hunting industry that pays for the upkeep on the parks that allow these animals to have a place to live in the first place.
Most hunters I have known have more of an understanding and respect for nature and wildlife than any of those I’ve known who’ve spent their lives in the unreality of suburbia reading books about nature.
This is a rural area where it is not unusual for people to go hunting, and I certainly hope it stays this way and doesn’t become likp Fairfax where starving animals are killed by cars at night and taken to the dump in the morning by the highway department. I’d much rather my son be influenced by a hunter with a sense of humor than many of the other things that are out in the world today.
Please keep this paper rural and don’t be influenced by those who want this to become just another bedroom community for D.C.
