Dr. Gangel said the addition of one more child to the pre-school handicapped program requires hiring another teacher. He said he had already started the process by advertising for another teacher.
Dr. Gangel said more than half of the students who entered Rappahannock schools in December were assigned to special education classes.
The board considered a request by parent Rosa Crocker that the budget include funds for “enrichment programs” at each school. These assemblies, one eaclL semester for each student would cost about $2,500 she said. She,, said a group of parents that meets the first Thursday of each month has been developing ideas for improving the schools, and this is their highest priority.
The board also heard a presentation by the fifth-grade teachers on programs in their classes and took a tour of the newly opened elementary school addition.
Richard Smith reported that bids for buses to be bought in the next budget should be ready for the board to consider at the February meeting. He also reported that work had been completed on improvements to the high school sewage treatment system. The improvements cost $28,238, he said. >

It was another successful 4-H meeting on Jan. 9 for the Joy Luck Club.
We also very successfully reached our goal to send Shannon to Disney. Thank you to all the donors who made the trip possible.
We are writing to express our concern about he proposed budget for 1995-96, which includes dramatic cuts to Virginia Cooperative Extension.
