Paragraph 6—The statements about the number of rooms in the new wing leads one to believe that seven special ed rooms and two speech rooms occupy the majority of the new space. In fact, there is only one. The class that serves the K-2 special ed children was given space in the new wing along with all the other K-2 students, but only after the threat of a law suit. When the new wing was being planned, special ed was not even taken into consideration. Also, the two speech rooms, in fact, only occupy half of a divided room apiece.
There may only have been one special ed class when the Elementary School opened in 1968, but I wonder what percentage of students overall finally graduated. I would venture to say that since recognition of a broader range of special ed needs has increased and programs have been degWpped to help resolve the pnjybifts, a greater percentage of students are graduating.
