State Sen. Kevin Miller, R-26th, whose district includes Rappahannock County, is suggesting that by 2001 the school calendar be changed , so that the year ends before Christmas.
Sen.7 Miller has proposed that a joint legislative committee of the assembly study the issue. He said some such policy is needed to so children won’t have to wait for buses in the extreme cold of winter. He suggests that schools, especially in the western part of Virginia, close for January and February, rather than July and August.
