The varsity Panthers defeated Strasburg 67-59 Saturday evening to win the -championship in the Page/Valley Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament after^efeating Page County Friday night.
Coach Eugene Baltimore said he had challenged his players when they arrived at the Page gym Saturday noting that they had hoped for the chance to play Strasburg for the championship. To win they would have to increase the defensive pressure on Strasburg which had scored 86 points in defeating Rappahannock earlier in the season, he said.
"It was a total team effort," Coach Baltimore said of the victory. The kids really stepped up and played defense."
Jeff Atkins and Daniel Settle were named to the All Tournament Team. They paced the Panthers Saturday night also. Jeff scored 17 points, and Daniel added 12. Chris McLear and Eric Smith scored 11 each.
