The sixth and final DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Parent Program Class was held Tuesday evening, Dec. 17, at RCES.
The evenings program, led b*y Capt. Jeff Brown of the Rappahannock Sheriffs Office, gave the 20 parent participants an opportunity to speak with a' panel of community leaders. Member of the panel were: Raye Tupper, principal of our elementary school; Sheriff Gary Settle; Susan Fox, at-risk coordinator at our high school; the Hon. Burke Hertz, former juvenile court judge; Jon Heddleston, lay minister and high school teacher; and Beverly Leathers, director of social services.
All panel members stressed how fortunate we are to live in a close-knit rural area where all branches of the community work together closely and continuously for the well-being of our youth and their families. When a problem within a family is identified, all services and agencies provide help, not only for the children involved, but for all family members. Here in Rappahannock County there is definitely a commitment to "help families get strong and stay together" Mrs. Leathers said.
