As chairman of the Planning Commission she oversaw the redrafting of the town's zoning, subdivision and historic district ordinances, keeping track of all the changes on her comDUter and makine sure the members had up to date copies as they went along. Once the ordinances had been adopted, Ms. van Dort provided each Planning Commission member and each member of Town Council with a copy in a binder.
With Mayor Dean Morehouse and Treasurer Brad Fisher out of town much of the week, it fell to Ms. van Dort to work with Rappawan on the scheduled replacements for most of the pipes in the water system. She became familiar with the entire project and became the person on call to represent the town.
As treasurer she has developed a new system for keeping track of the town’s expenses and income and developed a new system for water bills that should soon have that system on an even keel.
Ray Gooch, who worked with Ms. van Dort on both the previous Town Council and the current one said he found a record of a study done by a UVa architecture student of the houses in town. He was prepared to stuff it in a binder and turn it over to someone, but-he gave it to Ms. van Dort.
