I have just returned to California after a two week stay in Little Washington and the other Washington. I was once again mightily impressed with the beauty of the foothills and the contrast they have with Southern California.
I shared a perspective with many tourists to the area, the view from the road and of the roads. It is enjoyable and relaxing to drive on a well-maintained roadway away from the frantic hoards on the 10 lane monsters closer to the city.
My body began to relax as soon as I passed Warrenton and got on the gentle curves of U.S. 211. The verges were green, the mountains peeked into view, and the roadway adapted the landscape. It rolled with the hills, it went around obstructions, it fit in with the countryside. It did not dominate, it did not oblit
