Gatavay community meeting set
The Gateway Committee Community meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 21 at the Sperryville fire hall. The meeting with guest speaker Ed McMahon should focus on a number of gateway communities which have already implemented successful initiatives that deal with growth in a manner that protects the character of a community, while stimulating a healthy growth plan, and a healthy economy, but also safeguarding natural and historic areas and resources.
Athletic banquet planned
The Rappahannock County High School Athletic Department will be holding their annual athletic banquet at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27. The menu will consist of spaghetti, salad, bread and dessert. Tickets are on sale in the office for $5 per person and children under six are free. All tickets must be purchased in advance.
Bawkey family reunion set
A Bawkey family reunion for the relatives of the late William Claude Bawkey and Fannie Cobb Bawkey will be held Sunday, May 24 at Rappahannock Park on U.S. 211 near Washington starting at 12 noon. All family members and friends are invited to attend and are asked to bring a covered dish.
Healing Arts activities
The Rappahannock Healing Arts has scheduled the following activities:
May 27: Herb clinic from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Solution Focused Counseling from 5 to 9 p.m.
May 28: Yoga at 9:30 a.m. and Therapeutic Massage from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sperryville sets carnival dates
The Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department will hold their annual carnival June 3, 4, 5 and 6. The parade will be held on Thursday, June 4 at 7 p.m. For entry information contact Richie Lillard at 987-8952.
Benefit yard sale planned
Skyline Cap Head Start program for Rappahannock County is having a yard sale on Saturday, May 23 at the Child Care and Learning Center near Washington. The sale will begin at 8 a.m. and will continue through the early afternoon.
Advisory committee to meet
The Special Education Advisory Committee of Rappahannock County Public Schools will meet at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 28 in the modular building of Rappahannock County High School. Chair Sherry HamillHuff invites all interested persons to attend this final meeting of the year.
Choral concert scheduled
The Rappahannock County High School Chorus will present a patriotic Spring concert at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26 at the high school. The choral boosters will provide refreshments. A silent auction to benefit the chorus will take place before and after the concert. Raffle tickets for a quilt will be available for $1 each. Horseshoe tournament set
A horseshoe tournament will be held at 1 p.m. on May 30 at the Chester Gap carnival grounds. The price is $12 per team. Trophies will be awarded to those placing first, second and third. For information call Jeff at 636-3279.
Farmer's market to open
Countryside Farmer’s Market will open Friday, May 22 next to Mayhugh’s Grocery in Amissville. They plan to sell fresh local fruits and vegetables every Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout the season. If you are interested in , selling wholesale to the market contact Kathy at 937-5309.
Bloodmobile coming
The Washington Community Blood Drive will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 21 at the Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Hall. The blood drive is sponsored by Family and Community Educators.
Fly fishing day set
Turkey Mountain Outfitters is hosting a Lady’s Day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 22. Participants will learn how to fly fish for trout on the Thornton River. For more information contact Jenny Hickey at 987-9134.
Band Booster activities
The Rappahannock Band Boosters will meet at 7:30 p.m. on May 21 at the Rappahannock High School Library. Everyone is welcome.
Rappahannock High School Band will be playing at Faith Mountain in Sperryville for their grand opening at 7 p.m. on May 22.

Activities for Ragged Mountain Resource Center include Friday, May 22: “Blue Ridge to the Bay” speaker senes at Rappahannock Library, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., local Arbortist and Forester Lyt Wood will discuss “Clear Cutting. Selective Cutting, No Cutting - Landowner Options.”
