Health Insurance
The board unanimously approved a proposal to provide retired teachers, aides, secretaries, and office administrative personnel with a reimbursement of part of their health insurance costs as an add-on to a state reimbursement program. Starting Aug. 1, the state will reimburse retirees at the rate of $1 per year of creditable service, up to $45 per annum.
The board’s action will add $1 per year of service, up to $30 additional rebate. The $7,608 is not in the current budget request. The board will present the proposal to the supervisors at their June meeting. School Accreditation
Gangel reported continued accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. “It is an honor to be included,” said Gangel. “We’ve had it for a number of years and continue to be accredited system-wide.” He also announced that for the third straight year, the county schools were recognized for excellence by the School Match program. School Match, a for-profit corporation that works with Fortune 500 companies, profiles the top 10 percent of schools across the nation for their ability to provide those characteristics most wanted by parents for their families.
