It’s EMS Week and time to honor
volunteers for all they do
The week of May 18-24 is EMS Week. It is designated
a such to honor the many men and women
who faithfully serve others in emergency situations. In Rappahannock all those individuals do their jobs on a strictly volunteer basis. They give selflessly every day to help residents in a time of great need.
When you see one of these volunteers this week, or any week for that matter, stop and say thanks for all they do.
In addition to EMS Week, May 18-25 is also Buckle-Up America Week. The State Police will be working with the Rappahannock Sheriff’s Office to conduct a traffic check this Friday on U.S. 211 as part Of the Smart, Safe and Sober Campaign.
Buckling up is the law. If you don’t think they check driver’s for correctly buckled seat belts check out the District Court Docket on page A2 in any given week. And you may save the rescue volunteers some effort and yourself serious injury by properly using your seat belt. Statewide, of 981 traffic fatalities in 1997, 474 were unbelted and 28 of those were children under the age of 10.
